Three Shires Head
Difficulty: Medium
Length: 8.59 miles
Parking can be found at either Gradbach car park (this is the carpark for The Roaches, and was full at 9am in December) or alternatively at Wildboarclough (north west corner of walk). The walk can get extremely wet during winter with rocky and muddy paths throughout. This is a challenging walk during the winter months and should not be attempted without proper boots, the ground was rocky, muddy and slippery underfoot, but worth every minute. Three Shires Head made the walk worthwhile, as did the outstanding countryside. In dry conditions, Three Shires Head would be a perfect place to stop for lunch. The walk does follow byways and we did find that off-road motorbikes were on the trail. Keep dogs on leads as there are numerous fields of sheep. In dry conditions the paths and field crossings would have been much better and easier.
