Froggatt Edge, Curbar and White Edge

Length: 9.5 miles

Parking in one of the National Trust car parks, you can easily join the walk. The route takes you over Frogatt Edge, Curbar and White Edge, cross Big Moor with views over the surrounding countryside.


You will need good boots and the walk is wet and muddy under foot in wet conditions.


The now disused Barbrook Reservoir, has become home to over 200 wild red deer and birds such as the curlew, buzzard, merlin and snipe. They can be spotted across Big Moor, so please keep dogs on a lead.


NOTE: As you can see from the photos below, we did this walk on an extremely foggy day.

Froggatt Edge is a limestone cliff in the Peak District National Park in Derbyshire. The cliff is located near the village of Froggatt and is known for its rock climbing and bouldering opportunities. The cliff offers a variety of climbing routes of different difficulty levels, and it is a popular spot among climbers.

Curbar Edge is another limestone cliff, it is located near the village of Curbar. It offers excellent panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and is another popular spot for rock climbing.

White Edge is actually a hill, it's located on the Eastern edge of the White Peak area, known for its limestone landscapes and picturesque villages. White Edge offers great views of the surrounding countryside and is a popular spot for walkers and hikers. This area is also known for its rich wildlife and rare wildflowers.

All these areas are protected by law as Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and are protected due to the geology, wildlife, and landscapes.
