Explore the Majestic Edges and Moors of the Peak District: A Scenic Hiking Trail
Embark on a captivating hiking adventure through the heart of the Peak District, starting conveniently from a National Trust car park. This route offers a diverse landscape, taking you across the iconic Frogatt Edge, with its stunning panoramic views, before winding through the rugged beauty of Curbar Edge and the expansive White Edge. Prepare for an immersive experience, as the path traverses Big Moor, revealing breathtaking vistas of the surrounding countryside. Remember to wear sturdy hiking boots, as the terrain can be challenging, particularly after rainfall, when trails become wet and muddy.
Wildlife Encounters and Historical Charm at Barbrook Reservoir
A highlight of this walk is the disused Barbrook Reservoir, now a haven for diverse wildlife. Over 200 wild red deer roam freely across Big Moor, offering a unique opportunity for wildlife enthusiasts. Birdwatchers will delight in spotting curlews, buzzards, merlins, and snipes, all frequent visitors to this tranquil area. To protect these vulnerable species, please keep dogs on a lead throughout the walk. The reservoir itself adds a touch of historical charm to the landscape, creating a picturesque backdrop for your hike. Note: Weather conditions can vary drastically; we have experienced this walk under an atmospheric, but visibility-limiting, foggy blanket.
